Poultry Club News - June 2016

This month The Poultry Club have been busy attending the Countryside Days at the Great Yorkshire Showground held by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society. Our council members have been providing workshops and talks for the YAS’s largest education event where schools from across Yorkshire and Humber attended, with up to 6000 children visiting the showground. The Poultry Club has handed out goody bags and leaflets to promote the club and the work we do for the poultry fancy. The event was extremely successful and there has been very positive feedback from the youngsters and schools involved. This is all part of the future of the club and our intention to get as many juniors as possible to become passionate about our hobby.

The National Show committee met this month to finalise the plans for this year’s flagship show. All is looking positive for another successful show to be held at The Telford International Centre on Saturday 19th November and Sunday 20th November. We look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible whether it be your first time entering this prestigious event or you have attended that many times you have lost count. All are welcome and it is worthwhile visiting for a look around even if you are not an exhibitor. If you have never attended a poultry show on this scale before, you will be astounded at the number of different breeds on display. There will also be a range of trade stands to keep you entertained and to purchase your poultry keeping equipment. If you are interested in attending please contact the Poultry club or visit our website for more information.

I am very excited to announce that this year there will be a social event on the Saturday evening for all members, exhibitors, sponsors and traders to attend. Everyone is welcome, bring along your partners and families to make this a night to remember. The gala dinner and dance will be held in the Telford International Centre from 7pm. This will take place in one of the gala suites on site; all within easy access of the local hotels. The gala dinner will consist of a welcome reception followed by a three course table service meal and then the opportunity to dance the night away, chat at the bar and socialise with your poultry friends and fanciers. There will be a wine waiter on hand to take your order for the evening or you can pre-book your wine for your table if required. There will also be a raffle/prize draw for which I have already had many fabulous prizes donated from poultry firms; including an incubator, brooder, candler, feed and other poultry supplies. I will put out further details of these and details of our sponsors in due course. Tickets will be charged at £35.00 and this will include your three course meal, tea or coffee and the evening entertainment. Tickets will be on sale for this gala dinner to order with the National show entry forms, from your council representatives or direct from myself. You can place your orders on Facebook by sending me a message or through the PCGB page. I do hope that you will attend as it will be a fabulous evening and the opportunity to continue the success of the show long into the night.
