Poultry has a place in everyone's life, whether you're interested
in them or not! You may eat eggs, or chicken, or you may sleep with pillows
or duvets filled with poultry feathers. Manure you use on your garden may
have come from poultry, and vegetables you eat may have been grown using
poultry manure. You may go fly fishing using flies tied with poultry feathers
and we all know about Easter eggs and the Kelloggs Cornflakes cockerel.
Perhaps you're an Aylesbury United ('the Ducks'), Tottenham Hotspur ('Spurs'),
Bradford City ('The Bantams'), or France football supporter - all of these
teams play wearing poultry on their strips! You may watch cartoons with
the famous Warner Brothers Cartoon character, 'Foghorn Leghorn', or read
about the tales of Beatrix Potter's 'Jemima Puddleduck', or you may drink
ale from 'Courage Breweries' who sport that lovely golden cock logo. And,
who can forget that perennial joke, 'Why did the chicken cross the road?'.
The Poultry Club of Great Britain is open to anyone, not just those who
exhibit, breed, or keep poultry.

Ancient Importance!
Poultry is of great historical importance, having provided
valuable food and eggs throughout time. Many ancient tribal sketches
and cave drawings show poultry as being celebrated or a sign of strength.
But did you know that Britain gained its independence from Rome in
410AD because the Emperor of the time Flavious Honorius was far too
interested in poultry? |
